The Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Skopje, with support from the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Southeast Europe, is proud to announce the School for Politics and Critique 2020 – “Xenofeminism and other forms of realist and materialist feminism: A vantage point of a radically novel politics”. We are excited to announce the participation of the following speakers for this year’s school: Katerina Kolozova, Vincent Le, Nina Power, Patricia Reed, and Alenka Zupančič.

The School for Politics and Critique 2020 is dedicated to current political issues in the region and abroad, focusing on new and relevant knowledge from the intersecting areas of feminism, socialism, Marxism, and new forms of (speculative) realism that can serve as an epistemic foundation for a new form of politics. The project aims to address women’s rights and sexual identity rights as primary social issues, using a multidisciplinary approach centered around varying forms of materialist philosophy, including: feminist philosophy, non-philosophy, psychoanalysis, accelerationism, and marxist theory. In so doing we will seek to examine potential alternatives, and or structural bridges to or between traditional identity politics and new forms of feminist thought.

As such, the summer school aims to facilitate an in depth exploration of materialist doctrine, both new and old, while working through its implications and adaptations for and of contemporary feminist theory. More particularly, we will be exploring the links between Marxism, materialism, and feminism; envisioning new ways of conceiving the relations between gender, politics, economics and subjectivity. The concepts of Xenofeminism will be juxtaposed, and contrasted with the different approaches mentioned above.

The goal of the school is to unite both theory and practice, producing new rhetoric and strategies, which can lead to identifying new partners in the struggle, such as workers’ unions and other forms of worker movements.

The event is calling for both academics and activists from across Southeast Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Croatia, Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Greece*). Eight applicants from the region will receive scholarships and have their travel and accommodation costs covered by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. An additional twelve applicants from the region will also be accepted, but their costs not covered and ten applicants (including those from wider Europe) will likewise be accepted, without their costs being covered. Applicants should note that the school itself does not charge a fee for participation. All applicants should include a CV in their applications, and make sure to state their motivation for attending in the designated section in the application form. Residents of North Macedonia are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application: Interested participants are encouraged to send their application (available for download on the link below or www.schoolforpoliticsandcritique.org) to the following email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected]. The deadline for applications is June 15th and applicants will be notified of their status by June 30th.

* By extending the application deadline, we hope to allow all potential applicants to receive a clearer understanding of their capacity to travel before applying. Regardless of application date, all applicants will still be notified as to their status by June 30th.

* This call allows the exception of granting scholarship to participants from Greece under the special condition that they present a project, paper or some other form of active contribution to the program.

Disclaimer: Due to the unpredictability of the current covid-19 crisis, and the disparate responses by varying countries, a postponement and a modification of the current program are possible; the program and the set dates will remain unchanged if movement/travel within Europe and in particular the region returns to normalcy before September 1st 2020.
