Launch of the “Re-accessing the EU” Digital Research and Advocacy Platform

We are pleased to announce that the online and interactive platform for our project, “Combatting Anti-EU Discourses and Misinformation in North Macedonia and Serbia,” is now active and can be accessed at www.reaccessingeu.org.

This project, spearheaded by the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Skopje (ISSHS), engages in a rigorous analysis and advocacy initiative aimed at deconstructing the systemic rise of anti-European narratives and misinformation within the Western Balkans. By identifying and challenging the discursive hegemony that threatens the democratic public sphere, the project seeks to safeguard the EU accession process and promote an informed, resilient citizenry.

The analysis provided by this platform is both urgent and crucial, particularly as “post-truth” politics and “disappointed Europeanism” begin to reshape regional stability. In order to move beyond the current level of polarization, it is essential to introduce a space for critical inquiry that addresses the root causes of anti-EU sentiment. This platform facilitates a deep-seated examination of the narratives that have emerged following recent geopolitical shifts, offering a self-reflective and scholarly understanding of the challenges facing North Macedonia and Serbia today.

The Re-accessing the EU platform is collaborative and resource-rich, functioning as a hub for the exchange of ideas between researchers, practitioners, and the public. It is not merely concerned with the identification of misinformation, but acts to forge a new path for evidence-based discourse and policy-making that supports long-term European integration.

Visitors to the platform will find a comprehensive suite of interactive tools, including:

  • Scholarly Blogs and Publications: In-depth research analyzing the evolution of anti-EU rhetoric.
  • Podcast Series: Expert-led discussions on the impact of foreign influence and the nuances of the accession negotiations.
  • Visualizations and Policy Insights: Data-driven representations of the discursive landscape and actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

This project is supported by the International Visegrad Fund.
